A recent article on TalentZoo.com explained that companies who spend more on marketing during hard times are rewarded with larger gains. A study conducted during the recession of 1974 – 1975 showed that companies which didn’t cut advertising and marketing budgets saw higher returns than those who cut back. Again in the recession of 1989-1991, large name-brand companies like Kraft Pizza Hut saw gains of 50% or greater by raising their marketing budgets.

This is hard to do when a risk that big during a recession can end in a company’s ultimate demise. To endure or to grow, that is the question. Advertising is the first to go when the economy goes south. Normal people wouldn’t see a recession as a good thing. When a recession hits, people stop spending, which further escalates the damage. When people start spending again, and funneling money back into the economy, the recession ends. The same goes for companies. If a recession hits and companies stop spending, then the people that are spending and want to spend won’t know where to spend it.

For some businesses it is an opportunity to overtake those who seek to huddle inside the bomb shelter until the shelling ceases and the dust clears. They are the ones that get left behind when the settlement moves on after the destruction. It’s the difference between playing not to lose and playing to win. If company “A” cuts back their marketing budget, company “A” will lose ground with the consumer. That ground has become available to company “B” who has increased their marketing budget and politely says “thank you.”

Think of me as your graphic design handyman. During times like these, when priorities change, you need to do what you can and that's where I come in. A lot of times when a situation calls for something big, a smaller, more ideal solution presents itself.

Duct Taped Design is an endeavour born from years of experience and a strained economy. One of the first things cut from a budget is marketing and advertising. It’s a tough decision and sometimes it’s the only choice. Cutting down the ability to market yourself and keep people interested in your business is extremely important. I understand this completely.

I created Duct Taped Design to help businesses stay current in the public eye and to move forward with promotion, marketing and advertising when many budgets are stretched thin. The philosophy of Duct Taped Design is all about the seemingly insignificant. Just as in personal relationships, the little things are the most important. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been around for decades, staying ahead of the curve can mean the difference between progress and simply maintaining.

It’s easy for your attention to wonder from those little details that stay in a customers minds. An outdated logo, business cards with dated information, handwritten signs, neglected newsletters, all things that are easily overlooked. All of these things reflect upon your business. I’m here to help out in those areas of importance.

I can design your new business cards, logo, newsletter, brochure, pamphlet, letterhead, the list goes on. Think of me as your graphic design handyman. During times like these, when priorities change, you need to do what you can and that’s where I come in. A lot of times when a situation calls for something big, a smaller, more ideal solution presents itself.
